Note From the Director

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY - HAVE A FUN BUT SAFE HOLIDAY
Hi everyone, my name is Dee Lucas and I am the new Track Director of St. Pete BMX. I would like to thank everyone for the opportunity to serve on this Board for the upcoming year. I have been involved in BMX over 11 years, our son is the reason we are still here, his name is Nick, he is an 18 year old Expert and our family loves this sport.
First off we want to thank those Board Member's and Volunteer's who dedicated all their time and hard work to St. Pete BMX last year. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, so we need everyone to get involved, there's a job out there for everyone of all ages. We hope more of you will become involved with our Parent Council group which meets once a month, the next meeting to be held on July 19th. This is where your ideas can be heard and where we can all brain storm together on ways to help benefit St. Pete BMX and it's riders.
Pick up a calendar at registration and notice the new's letter on the back, this will bring information to families and riders on what the track needs on it's new wish list,(see below) and things that the track offers to its riders.
The Board of Director's have decided since we are between State Season and the Summer Series, points don't count for anything, we are canceling all races on Saturday evening and instead open for practice from 6-8 PM.
As we all know, a lot of rain is not good for our track, it takes many hours of work to keep clay on it during this time of the year only to have it washed off the next time it rains. Our long term goals are to fix that so it is easier on the volunteers devoting their time and energy for our kids to be able to ride. So please understand we will do our best to keep the track up and running during these summer shower days.
Thank You for checking out our web site - come again real soon for updates.

FIFTH
BMXER AWARD WINNER NAMED AT THE NBL EASTER CLASSIC
At
the NBL Easter Classic, BAWLS presented their BMXer Award to their
fifth winner. 15-Novice rider Simon Brandenburg from St. Petersburg,
FL made the biggest impression in Saturday’s race. He crashed
in his first moto, but then took 1st in both the second and third
rounds. He took third place overall on both Saturday and Sunday.
Simon’s accomplishments on the track are nothing compared
to his accomplishments off the track. Simon was diagnosed with
Cystic Fibrosis 15 years ago but because of BMX, he is one of
the healthiest and one of the most in shape kids with his condition.
Simon will be featured in an interview with BMX Today Magazine
and has a 2009 sponsorship with BAWLS Guarana!
Want
to try your shot at being a BAWLS BMXer Award winner? We’ll
hand out our next trophy at the NBL Keystone Nationals on May
22-24 in Pottstown, PA!
